Yes I do think Horses are a correct and good way to control a crowd, It has been done for years, and it works. Brave Policemen tackling a Mob on Horse Back should be congratulated.

Bradders the reporting of the incidents here has been the same as in the UK, film footage from BBC etc as well as CBC live coverage. No matter your political stripes you have to admit that many of the protesters went beyond "honest" protest. It is like so much of what is wrong in todays society..the sympathy goes to the bad guy..no wonder the police get frustrated,

Herb. Many or few? (many of the protesters went beyond "honest" protest.)
Horses are good for crowd control but not in aggressive siuations, that's why the police don't use them now in serious confrontations. They have remembered Peterloo.
Brad, you reminded me of joke when you mentioned McGregor. The devil was asked why he had expelled him from Hell. He said he was shutting too many furnaces down. Many people forget his earlier hatchet job on the steel industry. As for Thatcher being right, are we importing coal and steel? Scargill said there was a list of over thirty pits to be closed and was ridiculed by the government. Remember the day Heseltine announced that the industry was being closed down?
All the massive cuts in the old industries and services were a result of politicians seeing a problem but instead of doing a proper cost/benefit analysis and rational reorganisation they went for the simple and quick solution which suited their politics and conversion to pure monetary economics. Thik Beeching and the railways, closures predicated entirely on passenger numbers on a particular line, no effort to encourage more or ask what other benefits the branch lines gave to the public, a perfect example. Slash and burn and leave the market to sort it out. Is it any wonder that a, they got it wrong and b. they caused a reaction?
This is exactly what is happening now but this time the target is public service and the electors. Time for a system which constructs, not demolishes. If there is one single lesson to be learned from the last three years it is that the market is defective, private sector domination damages regulation for the common good.

" As for Thatcher being right, are we importing coal and steel? Stanley I agree 100% what you have omitted is the Price, we couldn't afford to produce and buy our own, and then manufacture goods to export competively, You have a very selective memory. Remember the first company in the World to make a loss of 1 billion pounds, now lets see if we can remember that. Bradders your anti police line is to the fore again, just out of interest have you ever served in the Forces ? Many of the protesters went beyond honest protest, Stanley 100s charged down Regent Street, I am sure Bradders will post a link to them on youtube charging down the streets.

Eric Pickles speaking on the radio this morning suggested that councils should save money by sharing chief executives. What a brilliant idea! Many of them get paid more than the Prime Minister yet we have one PM for the whole country, so why not one Council Chief Executive for the whole country? He could do the job for the lot and save us money.

Only problem with that Peter is that it would mean about 100 Chief Executives being made redundant, we can't lose jobs in the Public Sector in this difficult climate -)

I see no reason why you should make the bald statement that I have an anti police line , Frank, because that is simply not the case...
You perhaps might care to re-read the posts I have made on this subject .......
In my post of 12/12 (17:38) I agreed with you about the positive aspects of policing......
I'm pretty sure there will be an enquiry into recent Police behaviour ...it will make interesting reading.....
I will lookinto your claim about Regent Street , and if there is anything on YouTube (it's more than likely if it happened) I Will post a link....
You could of course do it yourself .....
P S They wouldn't have the likes of me in the forces....What with me being a drug addict and 6 1/2 stone soaking wet ..eh !

They can have free membership of the Big Society too!
I've just seen the news that councils are to be allowed to `set up their own banks'. Anyone remember how a couple of years ago the councils deposited loads of our money with Icelandic banks when those banks were known to be insecure and they then collapsed?

Stanley..many or a few...does it matter it is still a "few" too many!
Protest is a right, civil disobedience is a crime.

Edited by - Tizer on 13/12/2010 17:07:42 The councils are as dishonest (or may be more so ....if that is possible) than the government. There Is the result in the current P.E. of the latest mega fraud by our East Riding charlatans. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
Every silver lining has a cloud.

Catty, I've been watching Rotten Boroughs as well. What amazes me is that PE publishes the facts quoting evidence and nothing seems to be done about them. (No libel cases either which is tantamount to a confession that the reports are correct)
Irish government disputes bank's contention that paying large bonuses is a contractual matter. Clamps down on them and bonuses cancelled. Now why can't we do that?
Been watching Strobe's series on do-gooders, he's getting very good at these programmes, wonderful interesting stuff

Bradders, write a song and stop playing with words, you are not teaching anyone anything, nor are you being constructive. I will try one more time to get you to agree with something... Violent civil disobedience is criminal!!

Yes Herb when the law IS broken , the act is deemed to be criminal.
You will note that of the thousands of protesters in the demonstration , only 34 were arrested at the time.......
I have no wish to clog this topic much further with comment on last week's protest...but...
I wonder how the (brave) boys in blue are going to explain this one ....

Thanks to whoever it is who is " turning on" the links for me......(Nolic?)
Could you do it again for me please !
