Thanks Peter and I appreciate all the encouragement and help I have received from you all. I have sent an email to Victor today and I hope his eyes are ok. It was nice to read his book and as I said before, so much of his life is a mirror of my own. I really hope Stanley can adjust the book for me because It has been quite a task for me. Its ok for those who are used to the computer, but to me it's been like learning Chinese. I'll never forget the day I typed a load of pages and they just disappeared off the face of the earth! After that I just typed about five pages at a time and then saved them. Let that be a warning to any budding author. I hope that everyone who visits this site is keeping well, best regards to all, Tommy

Sue, I look forward to hearing how you progress with your book and finding out what it contains. It's great to see more OGFB members becoming authors!
Tommy, I've been using computers for many years but I'be been through what you've been experiencing, it happens to us all. I've now even tried to build my own computer (described in another thread) and that's brought problems aplenty - but I'm still trying!
Vic should be able to read your email although it helps if you put it in large font. His eye operation was set for January and they let him down and postponed it. Then it should have been last week. Vic went into hospital first thing early morning with no breakfast as instructed - but, again no operation. Guess what? The surgeon had gone on holiday! They wanted him to allow someone else to do the op but it's critical because if he loses use of this eye he will have no sight and no hearing. He said no and Margaret backed him up. Now he's wondering if he'd be better off with no op. Poor Vic, what a decision to make.

Makes you realise how lucky we all are. I hope Vic gets a result.
Tommy, don't worry about the text, I'll sort it for you. Main thing is to make sure you have included all the pages including the titles because when I have finished it you mustn't alter anything or it will spoil the format. I'll do it as soon as I've published my current book which won't be long now. Most likely this month.

Stanley, i've read my book and noticed a few editing mistakes and a wrong book publishing date, do you know if it's possible to simply change the text or do i have to cancel, make the changes and re-start the whole project again? The info about this on the lulu site is a bit vague to me. Look forward to hearing your reply.

Once you have finalised the publication you are stuck, they charge you an arm and a leg. Best thing to do is delete the project, edit and reformat the whole of the txt and start again using a different file name for the publishing file and a different title. I've never done it but had decided that this was the best route for a major revision. It is in effect a new book.
The way to avoid this is to examine the PDF file very carefully during the publishing process and re-submit if you want to include edits. The bad news as that there is no substitute for careful (and boring) editing.

Thanks for that Stanley. Seems like a lot of palava for a few minor changes, think i will just let it be, I'm not that much of a perfectionist.

Maybe it just sounds a palava becasue Stanley said "edit and reformat the whole of the text". It depends how much your corrections will change the layout of the book. If it's only some mis-spelled words then you should be able to make those changes without moving your photos or changing your page numbering, then re-submit as a new book.

It's nothing major Pete, I've already edited it on my comp. I just wrote the wrong publishing year of the "Lancashire Steeple jack" and forgot to include Fred Dibnah on the references page. It's just that if people in the know notice the mistake, they might think the rest of my research could be inaccurate, thereby casting a shadow of doubt on the whole book.

I shouldn't worry too much Colin. You should see some of the mistakes I've found in prestigious academic publications!

I'm about half way through Tommy's text and it's bloody brilliant. I was sat here with tears in my eyes as I edited the section about his mother's death. Don't m iss this one when he publishes, a wonderful social document. Apart from anything else, Tommy has a way with words, very readable, well-arranged and a clear and powerful story. All right, I'm going over the top but it really is that good!

Had another nice day with Tommy. We're into jacks now so I can help him out with the odd pic to illustrate what he's talking about.
