Listened to a radio programme about the plans for Hinckley C power station and the relationship with the local people. Interesting to hear the positive views of the locals - they will benefit with more jobs of course but at least they don't immediately protest against nuclear power. The man from EDF was asked if the company will provide help for the local schools which were severely affected by the last building programme when lots of workers brought their families to the area. He didn't give a straight answer but came out with an interesting fact - nearly 50% of British construction worker are now aged over 50, so they don't expect so many families this time. Also, more workers travel back to their original homes nowadays instead of living locally.

Thanks Kev, a few of the OGFB contributors painted the scene for a project on the "Are We Painting a Picture This Year" topic.

It was very interesting to see how we all interpreted the various colours in the original photograph...

Bob, not sure if you read the small print, the directory is for 1872, and he states that he's been doing chimneys for 19 yrs, so he started c. 1853.

The stack at Carlisle is still there and last I heard was being used as a vent for the sewers to give a positive draught through the system.
