And one characteristic of climate change is that we seem to get more extreme events. Most of the ice has gone now even from the back street. A walk to Letciffe is on the cards today, first time since well before Xmas!

Very funny Tiser, no it wasn't the Michelin man.
Guess what.... it was actually a woman who exterminated the bees! I spoke to her and it just seemed like an everyday thing to her, she actually said "See you in two years when they come back'. Eeek!

39C today (don't even think about it...haha) 8.30pm, still have cooling air-con on and dressed 'lightly' (don't visualise it... haha), have decided to leave air-con on tomorrow (43C ) while I am out at work so my cat doesn't 'flake it' in her fur coat. Just worried about any unforeseen system problems... oh dear. Just one of those things that you have to do.

Pluggy, just a bit of nit picking but your link was to NOAA's data on summer temperatures - i.e. 2nd warmest summer, not year, we still have as I write some hours of 2010 left in which to miss the record for warmest year! But NOAA's November report says "For the 2010 year-to-date (January–November), the combined global land and ocean surface temperature was 0.64°C (1.15°F) above the 20th century average—the warmest such period since records began in 1880", so we are nearly there. The month of November 2010 was the second warmest on record, after 2004. It's going to be interesting to see what the data for December 2010 shows because it will be ironic if its the warmest December on record! But it's easy to forget, here in the UK, that some other parts of the world have been suffering heatwaves while we have been snowed in. Russia is predicting bumper grain harvests for 2011 as a result of the unusually warm autumn there which has allowed the winter grain crops to thrive.

Quite mild, strange mist over Burnley yesterday and this morning which did not move, we were above it. Clear now though but very dull.

It's a pleasure Sue. I had the same problem myself but luckily on a topic that died. Glass steady on 29.5". A bit of breeze but mild and no frost. Forecast is for clearing skies and a hard frost tonight.

HAPPY 2011 EVERYONE Hope it's a good one for you all.
Spent a few hours this afternoon with Marilyn and David. We went down to one of our beach-side suburbs, Glenelg, I imagine it is quite like your Brighton but without so much high-rise and there's no pavillion at the end of the jetty, but it feels quite English. Most of the shops were open and we had a good mosey around (with thousands of others). We didn't walk the jetty cause the wind was too strong. Back to Marilyn and Dave's for coffee and a look around their lovely garden. A very pleasant afternoon.
